    Default Service Bulletin 25 (SB00025)

    Attention CC11 Owners,

    Tomorrow we will be mailing out a paper copy of Service Bulletin 25, which can be found on the Owner Support page of the website. This document concerns the copper oil pressure line and is applicable to all Sport Cub and Carbon Cub owners.

    There have been multiple issues with the copper line failing at either the end fittings, or somewhere along the length of tube due to vibration. The fitting at the engine has been narrowed to allow as little oil as possible flow in the event of a leak, but there is still obvious risk if oil is allowed to leak into the engine compartment. This bulletin requires increased inspection of the copper oil pressure line. It also provides the option to upgrade to a flexible braided line in place of the copper line, and if the change is made the increased inspection would no longer be required.

    David B. is currently at Osh Kosh, therefore the flexible line upgrade kit is not yet available on the web store. The parts will still be available by traditional ordering.

    Interestingly the only suggestion the DAR had when he inspected my Carbon Cub EX a couple months ago was to replace that copper oil line with a braided line. Said he had seen too many of them fail with disasterous results.

    Parts kits for this service bulletin are now in stock at CubCrafters and ready to ship.

    The cost on either the kit for the O-200 or the CC-340 is 299.95 and 10.00 shipping.

    For Sport Cubs order this kit. (O-200) SB00025-001-K

    For Carbon Cubs order this kit. (CC-340) SB00025-003-K

    The failures that have been reported to us have been in the range of 50-200 hours. Note that we have aircraft well above 1000 hours with no issues. The S/N range of the aircraft with issues varies widely.

    The service bulletin kit can still be ordered through our web site. We are planning to ship by August 19th. Ordering the kit now will ensure your place in line and help us determine how many kits to produce.

    Thanks for your patience if you ordered a kit when I first posted them in the store as available, but was not able to send them out quite yet. You guys will receive the very first kits sent out.

    Note that there may be more than two versions of the kit when the revised version is released. Just order the closest option to what your configuration is and I will make sure I sure you the right kit for your aircraft.

    The latest revision (Rev A) of SB00025 has been released. The updated file can be found on the website here. Major changes include:

    • Added -005 parts list specifically for CC11-100 aircraft with analog oil pressure gauges. This parts list contains a 4 inch longer hose for installation.
    • Removed the installation of SP50502-001 (street elbow) from the CC11-100 flexible hose installation as it is difficult to install. This change required the longer hose specified above.
    • Added images for clarification.
    • Minor typographical changes to increase usability and clarity.
    • Serial number effectivity ends with S/N 00280 to coincide with incorporation of change in production.

    If you are unsure if you have a digital or analog gauge, there are a couple of ways to tell. Digital gauges have a pressure transducer mounted to the forward side of the firewall, with wires routed through firewall to the gauge or instrument. Analog gauges have the copper oil pressure line proceed directly from the engine, through the firewall, and connected to the back of the gauge. These differences can be noted by either viewing the rear of the instrument panel, the front of the firewall, or by knowing which type of input your gauge/instrument requires.

    I will try to get the specific kits listed in the web store. For now, please go ahead and order the closest kit to what your configuration is and make a note in the comments section of the checkout page as to your serial number and any pertinent changes that have been made post production of your aircraft. I will make sure you are shipped the right kit.
    They are all the same price, and the same shipping.
