The Recraetion Aviation Foundation the RAF http://theraf.org/ has led the charge on many of these state reforms and frankly could be one of the greatest advances for off airport GA support for our future. We are trying to get this done here in Florida also and thanks to RAF its now on the radar. The group is really a great bunch of dedicated people to boot so stop by at Sun & Fun and Oshkosh to say hello. This takes lot of effort and financial support of great GA doers and thinkers so let your voices and dollars be heard to help get these State laws amended all to our benefit as Cub flyers. By the way RAF will be featuring a Carbon Cub in their booth at Sun & Fun this year which has displaced the Tornado Husky. Best Gary

Yes, we have introduced a bill with great help from Yasmina Platt of AOPA.. and sponcer senator Paxton.

However the trial lawyers want their two cents and this is their proposal (attached below).

Their version (see attached below) severely undermines the RUS efforts:

The consensus is to just say no to their version. We simply want o add Aviation Activities to the current Bill, Just like hunting or any other activity..

    Update
I work with the RAF.org as Texas Liaison. We have been trying to get Aviation Activities added to the Texas RUS to limit liability of private strip owners. Thanks to Yasmina Platt of the AOPA, It goes to a judiciary hearing (see below). The more pilots, land owners aviation enthusiast, we have in Austin the better our chances.

This is a hearing to head off the trial lawyers version.

    Pass this along.

If you have questions call me..

    Below more information

The committee hearing for HB2839, the Texas Aviation Recreational Use Statute (RUS), is scheduled for Monday at 2:00pm or upon adjournment. The word on the street is that the hearing may not actually happen until around 4:00pm.

The more pilots and airstrip owners that can be present in Austin, the better. Your presence does not mean you agree to testify, although you may have that option if you so desire. Those who travel to Austin may "drop a card" which, as I understand it, is a slang term for signing in and expressing your support. Please consider participating in this process.

The addition of the words "aviation activities" and "airstrips" to the existing RUS will provide improved recreational opportunities for pilots visiting the Big Bend and all of Texas. This clarification in the law will encourage owners of private airstrips to welcome visitors by limiting liability claims against the airstrip owner. The opportunities for improved economic development, emergency services, and public safety are significant.
