It seems that Canada only follows IACO requirements, which requires a medical. And this doesn't seem likely to change.
I've flown to Alaska in a faster plane, and really enjoyed it. My first thought when I got the CC was that I'd really love to fly it in Alaska - but that would be a LOOOONG trip getting there through Canada with a CC. I will fly up comercially this Summer to shoot some bear pictures, but don't plan on flying the CC there anytime soon - just too long a trip for me.
Anyway, you might consider taking along another pilot with a medical and let him fly the Canadian legs.
