    Default New Hartzell starter.

Just put the new starter on that Cubcrafters is now offering. What a difference. No lag at the top of the compression. I have always had a struggle, now it seems to turn over 2 or 3 times faster with no lag at the top.

Not sure I know about the starter. I take it you have CC340? Jim

At the end of August (2012) CubCrafters announced the changes and improvements for the 2013 Carbon Cub line. One of those changes was a switch to a Hartzell starter that weighs 1.7 pounds less and cranks the CC340 over much better than the previous starter.

    Press release from August here:

    http://www.cubcrafters.com/news/53-c...-carbon-cub-ss

It can be retrofitted but requires the new 2013 style cowling because the nose of the Hartzell starter protrudes forward further.

All factory new Carbon Cubs from S/N 237 and on (about August 2012) have left the factory with the new starter.

    Hi Pete,
have you determined whether or not the new starter will fit with the earlier cowl? Also, will Cubcrafters offer it
    for sale?
    Happy New Year

The service instructions are posted on the Owner Support section of www.cubcrafters.com if you want to review them or show them to your mechanic before you commit. It doesn't take any special tools, just measure twice (or three times) and cut once.

We have a kit now that you can put on an ELSA or E-AB carbon cub. It's a blister that goes over the area where the Hartzell starter proturdes our of the cowling. I will post some pictures soon. It's beautiful, clear coated carbon fiber and looks factory.

My plane is #203, but was in for repair and I had the new style Cowl put on. Cubcrafters would know about the cowl. The only difference I can see is the housing is a little longer as it comes out over the starter gear. May be able to cut that off if needed. Would not spend the money on the new cowl just for that I don't think. Also was able to get the larger battery which made a big difference. It improved the air flow flow for the heater, but is still only blowing in warm air. I have sealed up the extended baggage and put felt around the flap openings. Seems to have made a difference.
