    Default Air Filter Cleaning

Manual say to clean the air filter with solvent and was with detergent and reinstall. I noticed when new it was coated with a sticky spray but the manual doesn't include spraying it with oil or anything else. Do you spray it with a light oil before reinstalling?

I would just buy a new one. They are just over $20 and come with a fresh coating of the oil.

Takes longer to take it out of the package than it does to install it.

Maybe you have an old rev of the AMM? Current rev is always available under Owner Support on www.cubcrafters.com (http://www.cubcrafters.com/resources/support)

    6.3.12 Page 3 (http://www.cubcrafters.com/pdfs/ccss/cc11-160amm.pdf)

After the instructions for cleaning says:

"Apply a filter oil, such as Castrol Foam Filter Oil or Amsoil High Tack Foam Filter Oil, to the element and work it into the cells throughout"

It is a liquid, not a spray, so that it will not just be on the outside of the filter but all the way through the foam.

Thanks Pete- Appreciate the help. By the way - I did buy a new filter thinking like you it should only be ~$20. It's a good thing these are light sport aircraft and I don't need a current medical as after I got the bill for $54.65 for that 6x12 inch piece of foam they had to restart my heart with those shocker paddle things to get me upright again. That's the reason for the question - think I'll clean the old one for a spare.

I did check the price of the Carbon Cub airfilter and it's $24.95 plus shipping.

    Thanks

What great service. Didn't finishing typing and Vera was calling me with a refund. My fault for not checking when it arrived but I was rushing off to fly the back country of Utah - which I highly recommend to anyone with a Carbon Cub on the west coast.
