    Default Quick drain

My particular O 200 will not accept the Saf-air engine oil drain due to the oil pickup tube cutting the o ring seal when pushed up to drain the oil. Does anyone know about the aero quip quick drain fitting? I'm wondering if it also operates in the same way with the o ring being pushed up into the oil tank when draining. I can't find a picture of how it operates.

I could not make the AQ quick drain open when installed (hits oil pick-up tube). Reverted back to std drain plug.

They make a 90* adapter for Rotax and Jabaru engines. I have never tried one on the O-200 but have thought it might work. Look "oil drain" on Aircraft Spruce. You would have to figure out the thread sizes to see if it would fit.

The oil pickup tube is a straight pipe with a screen brazed on the bottom near the drain opening. It has a crush gasket where it fits on the bottom of the oil pump. i have seen some of the screens that were left jagged on the bottom. My guess is that is your problem or the tube is loose and hanging down too low. You should be able to diagnose with the plug out and a flashlight. If either, just drop the sump and grind the screen smooth or tighten the pipe. If you drop the sump, I recommend replacing the gasket with a R.E.A.L gasket.

We have seen a real inconsistency in the location of the end of the pickup screen on the newer O-200s. Sometimes the oil drain will work, other times it will not.

I think your exactly correct Tony. I talked to Saf-Air quick drains about my issue and apparently I'm not the only O-200 having this problem. Thanks also Pete for weighing in.
